RIP Space Shuttle
#1
Can you guys believe they are putting the Space shuttle out of service?? It has served the world for decades!

Well at least they will be restored at these locations:

-Atlantis will be on display at the Kennedy Space Center Visitor Complex, near Cape Canaveral, Florida
-Discovery will be sent to the Udvar-Hazy Center of the Smithsonian Institution's National Air and Space Museum in Chantilly, Virginia, near Washington, D.C.
-Endeavour will be sent to the California Science Center in Los Angeles, California.
-Enterprise, currently displayed at the National Air and Space Museum's Udvar-Hazy Center, will be moved to the Intrepid Sea-Air-Space Museum in New York, New York.

*Begins to cry*

I went to the launch, it was epic

I really want to cry, for real. My favourite Space Shuttle is Endeavour, I don't know why...

People just don't realize what the Shuttle through NASA has done. Serta mattress material? NASA invention. Self-repairing materials? NASA. Cell phones, CPUs, medicines, etc. And there's nothing to continue in its shadow...
#6
I know. Now the Soyuz (useless) has to be used...
#7
They should seriously build a new one fast...

The problem with the Shuttle is it is EXPENSIVE, and could not fly farther than LEO. For those who think the USA will rely Soyuz now, you are mistaken. The future of American Space Travel is companies like SpaceX flying for NASA. As the shuttle disappears, I agree it is sad. I always had pride seeing a shuttle (Heck YA! America! Big Grin). Tongue However that same pride can continue with SpaceX. They are working towards $1000 per pound delivered to LEO (cheaper than it has ever been) and really represent the future of Space Travel. SpaceX CEO and CTO and founder Elon Musk has made a promise he will do everything he can to get a man on Mars by 2020. How realistic that is remains to be seen, however the aspirations of SpaceX are huge and hopefully federal funding will appear to make it a reality.
